Purpose of use:
Qualitative determination of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) antigen in a human stool sample.
H. pylori is a small, spiral-shaped bacterium that can live on the surface of the stomach and intestines. The Helicobacter rapid test specifically detects H. pylori antigens in stool and indicates the presence of the bacterium.
H. pylori infection causes stomach inflammation (gastritis) which can lead to the development of a duodenal or stomach ulcer. H. pylori infection also increases the risk of stomach cancer. Studies show that more than 90% of patients with duodenal ulcers and 80% of patients with gastric ulcers have H. pylori infection. Stool antigen determination is gaining popularity in diagnosing H. pylori infections and monitoring the effectiveness of treatment.
A colored test line (positive result) indicates that you have H. pylori bacteria in your stool and you should contact your doctor. If the result is negative, H. pylori antigen could not be detected. However, if the symptoms persist, it is recommended to talk to a doctor.
