Strep A Rapid Test
A rapid test for the detection of Group A streptococcus bacteria (Strep A) from a throat swab.
CE marked (0123) In vitro diagnostic medical device for self-testing.
Intended use: The Strep A rapid test is a lateral flow immunoassay for the qualitative detection of the Group A streptococcus antigen from a throat swab sample. The test is intended as an aid in the early diagnosis of Group A streptococcal infection. It is for in vitro diagnostic use and self-performed testing.
Group A streptococcus is one of the most important human pathogens, causing illnesses such as strep throat, tonsillitis, impetigo, and scarlet fever. It is essential to differentiate streptococcal infection from other infections (such as viral, mycoplasma or chlamydia) in order to start appropriate treatment. Early diagnosis and treatment of Group A streptococcal pharyngitis reduces the severity of symptoms and other complications such as rheumatic fever and kidney disease. Therefore, it is useful to perform a rapid test as soon as symptoms appear.
