Rapid test for the determination of Vitamin D in fingertip blood sample. Vitamin D deficiency is common in the adult population and the risk of deficiency increases with age, as Vitamin D synthesis decreases in the skin.

Adequate levels of Vitamin D are crucial for health and well-being, since Vitamin D deficiency can cause bone loss and is associated to various serious diseases. Monitoring of Vitamin D levels is, therefore, considered essential.

The test measures 25-OH Vitamin D and, thus, gives the total Vitamin D status. Both the available form of Vitamin D and its stored form are measured. The result is obtained by comparison with a color card: Deficient, Insufficient, or Sufficient level of 25-OH Vitamin D. When 25-OH Vitamin D concentration is 30 ng/ml or less, the test reveals a deficiency or an insufficient level. In these cases, use of Vitamin D supplements may be recommended.
